There is no “positive” gossip imo. Being the subject of destructive gossip myself for many years, I can testify to that. You are putting a person in a place of judging not only the behavior, but at times the person themselves, when ideally, they should get their noses out of other peoples’ business and stay in their own lane. Let a higher power be the judge or let the people be the judge of their own behavior. Even if it’s good gossip, as you say, what right is it for them to decide who and when the information is told? Maybe s surprise announcement was planned? Or worse, maybe the busy bodies disguised, the bad gossip to look like good gossip and said something like this, “Listen up, everybody, I have good news! Shiela is going to get the help she needs, finally. She’s starting detox tomorrow at a rehab for dual diagnosis-alcoholism and mental illness. She’ll be there between 3-6 months. I’ll keep you updated “

      Dear Debbie,

Thank you for contributing to this post about gossip. I appreciate the passion of your points. You give us a couple of contexts and perspectives well worth considering.

Your experience makes clear how real and harmful gossip can be, even when it’s framed as ‘good’ or ‘positive’. You’re naming an important truth: when information is shared without consent, it crosses into judgment and power over someone else’s story. My intention with the article was not to minimize that harm, but to invite discernment and responsibility — and your comment underscores why consent, privacy, and staying in our own lane matter so much. ❤️🐞
