      Thank you for your comment, Elissa. In the marital counselor circles, couples are ‘checked out’ for their commitment, for their cherishing behaviors (those little caring gestures) and for their communication with one another. You might be interested in marital expert, John Gottman’s thoughts.

    Thanks Patricia for a great article. I use the Acknowledge, Appreciate, Encourage approach when introducing individuals to running. I have to acknowledge that every one is at a different starting point, appreciate the level of effort they are putting in and encourage them to achieve their goal.

      Thank you for your comment, Martin. Acknowledge, Appreciate and Encourage is an effective formula for empowering others. In your work in the play, sports and marathon world, you are known as, not only Marathon Man, but also as a man who inspires others. Add the empowering piece and you have a memorable legacy!
